Top Vitamin-Mineral Interactions You Need to Know About

I see Dr Deanna Minich has updated her page on vitamin and mineral interactions, which always saves me a job, yay! I’ve added it to my page on Cautions & Contraindications for you in the A-Z, which includes several resources so you can check contraindications with meds, what to take safely during pregnancy etc.

Read the full blog post here from Dr Deanna. She goes over the synergistic and antagonistic actions of nutrients on each other, which you should always bear in mind. I often say this when I find people taking lots of separate supplements to ‘fill gaps’ as she explains. I always recommend balanced multis if possible and, if not, take note of the way the vitamins and minerals all interact.

For example, Vitamin D may affect magnesium levels adversely because you need lots of magnesium to act as a co-factor for you to use the Vitamin D. Most people are low in magnesium to start with, so that’s not going to help you get more of either nutrient. But extra Vitamin D helps you absorb calcium.

Another example – synergistically, iron, iodine and selenium all work together to support thyroid function in various ways, as she explains in the article.

Hope it’s useful for you., do check it out. I do love Deanna’s infographics!
