ADHD Not Just Genetic

There have been several media reports over the last few days which give the impression researchers have confirmed ADHD is genetic. This is misleading. A study from Cardiff University found out of a hundred children who inherited the mutated DNA identified, only 4 were likely to go on to actually develop ADHD.

After originally stating this was confirmation ADHD was a genetic disease, when questioned more, the lead researcher Prof. Anita Thapar said she was keen to stress that it is NOT just genes but a mix of genetics and environmental factors that cause ADHD. To claim otherwise is misleading and potentially dangerous.

Many studies have shown that without junk food and artificial additives, ADHD behaviour improves in classrooms and young offenders’ institutes.

Just wanted to put that straight!
