Purehealth News

Featuring Clinic Notes, bamboo powder, prawns and brain retraining this week. Enjoy x

Hi peeps,

Hope you are enjoying the new-look Purehealth Newsletter. Around 1500-2000 of you are reading it each time when I look at the stats, and that makes me happy 🙂 Far better than the measly 2-300 on the blog, thankfully! Is this OK coming out weekly – would you prefer fortnightly? I’m aiming to release it on Wednesdays – ‘hump day’ as one of you called it! – so I’m a day late already this week lol! I’ll try and get organised. Are you coping with the Substack format OK? Let me know.

Hope you found the healing after accidents/surgery series useful. And I also hope you never need it. But it has worked. I’m pleased to report that P was signed off just 9 weeks after his fall yesterday – just getting his confidence and muscle strength back up now and more time for the wrist in particular to heal. Not bad after smashing his hip, breaking his wrist and fracturing his spine, not to mention the huge tissue bruising. I’m so proud of him. And me, to be honest. He had a Micki in his corner and, not to blow my own trumpet, but I have worked hard on him!

Have a great week, and enjoy this issue… don’t forget to catch up on my more frequent little titbit Notes here.

Clinic Notes

I promised to let you know when my monthly Clinic Notes for practitioners newsletter is out. Check it out below:

TGF Bamboo Exfoliating Powder

Many of us hypersensitives can’t tolerate normal toiletries, I know, so I’ve been experimenting with a few things. I’ll share the good stuff as I find/make it. This week, I needed a good exfoliator for my skin, which feels more like leather nowadays thanks to central heating, log fires and menopause! I always used to get complimented on my skin – it’s always been lovely, thankfully one thing my body got right – my half-Italian genes, I think! Now it is covered in tiny red bumps and skin growths thanks to years of insulin resistance from the PCOS. I sound gorgeous, don’t I, lol?

Anyway, I tried using flannels, salt, sugar etc, but came across bamboo powder, which sounded like a safe bet. I mixed a little powder in water to start with – felt a bit rough but doing the job. So, next time, I popped a little in my morning skin oil, which is currently light coconut oil with high essential fatty acid/nutrient-rich borage oil added, and massaged for a minute or too with that. Result. Beautifully soft skin again. Yay 🙂

Here’s some info about bamboo powder generally:

Bamboo Exfoliant (Inci name: Bambusa arundinacea Stem Powder) comes from female bamboo trees. It is rich in silica and mineral salts because it comes from a white liquid/sap called Tabasheer or Vanshlocan, which exudes from the nodes/ joints and solidifies into a crystalline powder. It’s traditionally used in Ayurvedic, Unani and Chinese medicine. It’s nicknamed the ‘Porsche’ of all exfoliants. Most of it comes from China, I think.

Just be a little mindful that, as with all natural products, the size of the grains can vary so, if they seem a little big or rougher for you, you could always grind it down to make it finer. I’ve not tried that yet. I might see if I can find a finer one, maybe. I’ll report back. Meantime, I am enjoying much smoother skin, yay!

Would it help if I put some of these DIY TGF ingredients on the shop for you as I go along, or make some ready to use stuff up for you? Let me know. Might be one less thing to find TGF and truly non-toxic, eh?

Gupta brain retraining new 90 day programme

For any of you who are doing brain retraining for loss of food tolerance, chemical sensitivity, anxiety, chronic fatigue etc, as I recommend in my Healing Plan, I note that Gupta is bringing out a new ‘easier’ and ‘more effective’ 90 day programme for you to follow. There’s a free webinar about it on 2nd April, 6pm UK time. Ashok explains a bit about it here:

Yummy spicy prawns with cauliflower rice and steamed greens

Delicious recipe here from Dr Mark Hyman’s blog for you today. I would use olive or avocado oil instead of the butter or ghee myself. I’m liking paprika-y things at the moment. I treated myself to some new spice mixes recently – most seem to be going in OK. I use this single smoked Spanish paprika or this Tagine mix if I want a little more heat. I’d prefer to grind my own spices, and do a lot of the time, but sometimes I find ready-mixes from good quality places a convenient solution if I’m time-pushed.

Re cauliflower rice, I prefer to make my own using my ancient Thermomix that I was gifted once by them to practice with – gosh, 20 years ago?? – but otherwise I use frozen cauliflower rice. I find the fresh goes off really fast and makes me feel icky! Any recommendations for good cauli rice gratefully received?!

I just looked up the price of a new Thermomix and almost fainted! So glad they helped me out with an old one, which is still going strong, thankfully. I suppose if I thought about the number of times I use it (almost daily) over the twenty or so years, it’s good value. But gulp.
