Great review here showing the effect that a simple 10 minute daily massage using specific essential oils on the first 3 days of your period can have on pain and flow.
In this study, I like the second ‘blend’ including clary sage which is a great mood-lifter too, which helps, let’s face it, when you’re in the middle of a nasty month. Cinnamon is not a common essential oil and you do sometimes need to be careful with the spices.
The rose used in both mixes is very expensive so try leaving it out or buy a ready-blended mix in something like jojoba oil. If you’re going for rose, choose rose otto absolute as the best.
Interestingly, I used to recommend a drop of cypress essential oil in the belly button for reducing heavy bleeding years ago. I had forgotten about it until I saw this. Another way I have in my notes is to put 10 drops of cypress in an egg cup of hypericum oil and use that to massage the abdomen. I have seen it reduce heavy flow within minutes, but usually within about half an hour.
Anyway, hope that proves useful. ND do the fab range of essential and massage oils by Julia Lawless if you need a good source.
