Top Diabetes Type 2 Tips

November is Diabetes Awareness Month, World Diabetes Day is 14th November. So, here are a few of my top diabetes tips for you. As some of you know, I am on the cusp of diabetes Type 2 myself after years of PCOS insulin resistance. I’ve done well to hold it off so well – and I would not be at this point if I could flipping tolerate my own supplement protocols or meds OR have enough useful foods to sort it out. #workingonit #butrefusemoreavoidance!

Anyway, here’s a tip from Orthomolecular Medicine for prevention and treatment of diabetes, that I thought was nice and simple – and doable for almost anyone.

The level of vitamin D and its cofactors magnesium and vitamin K2 are widely deficient in individuals throughout the world. These deficiencies attenuate the function of the body’s immune system and contribute to widespread disease and death that could be prevented with adequate supplements.

In many cases, type 2 diabetes can be prevented and reversed with a protocol of essential nutrients that includes vitamin D, magnesium, vitamin K2, and mild dietary restriction in a low-sugar diet with colorful raw and cooked vegetables. Many people including medical professionals are unaware of the problem and its solution. Please spread the word!

To test Vitamin D via fingerprick, go here. For what you are aiming at, see the Vitamin D factsheet here. The number of times I’ve been told results were normal on people’s blood tests – and they are not when you look at that factsheet – I can’t tell you!

Best Diabetes Supplements

Supplement-wise, there are several approaches. A good all-in one is something like this GlucoBalance, which contains pretty much everything in one multi. I would combine that with the extra Vitamin D and K2, as needed (see the factsheet), the Belly Fat Plan below plus some Glucomannan fibre before meals which helps you eat less, reduce the insulin spike after eating and keep you feeling full for longer. I have found that works really well to lower insulin resistance and therefore prevent the onset or worsening of the dreaded diabetes type 2. I give a different approach in the BellyFat Plan too if you need other ideas.

The other, newer, supplement approach I am finding really helpful is using berberine. Here’s a bit from my PCOS Factsheet. PCOS is caused by insulin resistance NOT the ruddy ovaries!

Overall, the most effective supplement for insulin control seems to be berberine.
Studies have even shown it works better then metformin, the drug most often used to stabilize insulin in PCOS women – so you definitely wouldn’t want to take both, note! Dosage varies for individuals, but often 500mg per meal works well. If you have one particular meal of the day where you feel really tired after it, definitely take it then.

In terms of diet, check the Belly Fat Plan out, which is designed to control insulin resistance. Even if you only used the Best/Worst Foods list in it, you are going to benefit enormously. This is what I am working towards myself as I get new foods in. I have also done a new Carb Control Meal Plan and a Sugar Free Paleo Meal Plan with lots of recipes to help.

If in doubt, start with testing your Vitamin D and correct it. I see it so low much of the time and it has such an impact. It is no wonder we are seeing epidemic levels of diabetes and dementia, so-called type 3 diabetes because of the effect of insulin resistance on the brain. A tiddly bit of prevention saves an awful lot of suffering and NHS pressure and costs! Just sayin’.

Consider the word spread. I thank you! Obviously, talk to your chosen health practitioners before you make any changes, especially if you are on meds – these suggestions work, so people can find they push blood glucose too low, so keep monitoring and talking. Good luck!
