Hot on the heels of the new Urinary Tract Infections/Cystitis factsheet, here comes one on men’s urinary issues!
I was really shocked at the numbers here – a helluva lot of men suffer with either Prostatitis, BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy, enlarged prostate,) and prostate cancer is the number one cancer in men, with 1 in 8 getting it in the UK. Eek.
I started writing the factsheet because there is a new, much better test for prostate cancer now called the Stockholm3 and I have managed to list it for you on the shop so you can get it. I am so pleased because the PSA figures are terrible:
Up to now, the only real test for prostate cancer has been the PSA and biopsy. The trouble is that it is just not very good and relying on PSA misses about 30-50% of aggressive cancers. On the other hand about 70-80% of men with raised a PSA score turn out not to have cancer at all, or not aggressive prostate cancer than needs treatment. This has led to a lot of men having unnecessary biopsies and treatment, when they didn’t need it.
