Maintaining soft, smooth skin is super easy with an army of natural ingredients just waiting to assist you! The condition of our hands and nails can often be indicative of our physical health and well being. Everyday wear and tear is also most apparent here too, so a little daily TLC can really help to improve your skin and nail health.

First and foremost, a nutritious moisturiser is essential for maintaining beautiful, soft skin and keeping dry, hard skin at bay. If dry skin is an urgent problem for you, choose a rich skin food treatment such as organic shea butter or apply nutritive, caring calendula and chamomile balm to problem areas. We recommend applying your moisturiser to warm skin and allowing plenty of time for the oils to soak in (ideally overnight). Some moisturisers are very rich and so wearing gloves while the oils get to work can really fast track your way to smoother, softer skin (just see how your skin feels in the morning!) If you’re suffering with eczema, shea butter can really be beneficial. Choose organic virgin shea butter for best results or opt for our shea and olive body butter. Double check that the soaps, shampoos or detergents you are using are not causing irritation to your skin and switch to something natural and more gentle. If hand washing is exacerbating your problems, make sure you moisturise well afterwards with a small amount of hand cream or oil. A few drops of sweet almond oil or hazelnut oil will soak in quickly and keep your skin protected until the next wash.

If you’re in a rush and you don’t have time to wait for oils to soak in, try this superbly nourishing hand oil: Take 50ml of organic golden jojoba oil and add 10 drops lemon essential oil, 3 drops of lavender essential oil and 2 drops of geranium essential oil. Mix well and apply a few drops whenever you need to moisturise your hands and nails.

If your nails and cuticles are looking tired and neglected, try applying our award winning cuticle moon hand and nail butter. We’ve crafted together some of our favourite hand care ingredients like lemon and shea butter with silky macadamia, organic cocoa butter and organic honey. Massage a little of this lemony butter into your hands and each nail twice a day. Lemon is fantastic for problem nails. Not only does it help to strengthen and brighten the nail it also acts as an antiseptic, so is perfect for nails prone to problems and infections. Lemon also helps to restore discoloured nails and whiten the tips. If fungal conditions are a problem for you, try massaging a little neat lemon essential oil into your nails* (please make sure there is no broken skin!).  Apply one drop to each nail and massage in carefully. You can do the same with lavender essential oil too. Lemon and lavender are two of our top nail care oils!

For marks and blemishes we really can’t recommend this gem of an oil enough – please invest in a bottle of organic castor oil. You won’t regret it! Try a few drops of castor oil on the back of your hand, with one drop of frankincense essential oil. Massage this well into the skin twice a day and hopefully it won’t be long before you notice significant improvements! This method also works very well for stubborn age spots, dark skin patches and warts – just make sure you apply it twice a day to see results and don’t forget to add your frankincense oil for extra potency.  Give extra attention to the problem areas. If you find the castor oil a bit too sticky for your liking, dilute it with a little sweet almond oil – 3 parts castor oil to 1 part sweet almond oil.

I personally don’t mind the texture of quirky castor oil and I can’t even remember how I ever managed without it!  It’s just a fantastic tonic for purifying problem skin.

We hope you enjoy trying out all of the amazing ingredients that nature has to offer 🙂 Your skin will thank you for it!

*We normally recommend that all essential oils are well diluted before use but a few select essential oils may be used neat for specific purposes. Do not apply lemon essential oil directly to sensitive or broken skin.
