A linky one…interesting bits and bobs I’ve come across this week

Some quick updates and stuff with plenty of links for you to follow up if you want. It saves me overloading your email inbox!

Just listed new oral, vaginal and urinary infections tests on the shop as Invivo have discontinued theirs. The new ones are more advanced. I’ve added sample reports and collection instructions for each one. Hope they help.

I’ve changed the ERMI mould-in-your-home test link on the Moulds and Mycotoxins factsheet as one of you let me know it had changed – links: truly the bane of my life. I need a link-changer person!

Hayfever? Just a quick reminder to get one of these if you haven’t already. Total game changer for me. I use it probably once or twice and I’m fine for the rest of the season. Relief, literally.

Bonus tip: Peppermint is a great oil for hayfever, especially if you are bunged up and feeling sticky-headed. Did you know, you can put 2 drops of undiluted essential oil in the crook of each elbow, then close your arms, so that the oils go into the blood stream easily? You can also do this on the soles of your feet, but there’s further to go to your nose and sinuses from there! Check the new essential oils section here. You want good, organic oils for these things to work well.

If you’re in the market for a gorgeous farmhouse and land in Suffolk, and happen to have £1.8 million, check out India’s house below. Or, if like me, that is only ever going to be a snort-ful pah, then drool over it and get some ideas from an interior design cottage core guru. Oh yes, I know my interiors jargon 😉

On interior design, I see that peachy-pinky colour is making a comeback. I hate it. P and I call it ‘artificial limb’! You may love it but I don’t want to be reminded of limbs, myself.

Have you come across Amazon First Reads? It was new to me. You sign up and get editors’ picks for a book a month free for Prime or Kindle Unlimited members, or low cost eg. £1.99 for non-Primers. This month it’s choose two books for 99p each. And some good ones there. I am just reading Jo Jo Moyes, Someone Else’s Shoes. I always enjoy her. I see it is normally £5.99 so bargain. Be careful: a bit too tempting for your TBR pile!

How to stop overeating. Try Hara Hachi Bu – what?! It’s a Japanese term referring to the practice of eating until you are 80% full. Dr Mark Hyman talks about it here and gives some tips.

Useful guide on how to do a thyme steam inhalation for killing viruses, bacteria and fungal infections – many of which start in the nose. You can use fresh herbs, especially thyme, or thyme essential oil as in this guide. As usual, though, there is no indication of which thyme oil to use – and they are very different. Red Thyme is the anti-infection one, but is very powerful as it contains a lot of the active thymol, so only use 1-2 drops. Thyme linalool is much milder. If in doubt, use the herb or a ready-made mix like this. Or, if you don’t want to use thyme, use the traditional Thieves oil – so-called because it was used to protect thieves and robbers in the 15th century from plague, eek. Just always check for contraindications – on each oil page. Order here if you wish to support me, thank you.

I saw Melissa Hemsley writing about how to construct the beautiful dish above – sesame noodle salad with sticky tofu – when she was at a food festival recently. I thought it was actually pretty useful for whatever salad you are making. If you stick to some or all of these elements, you’re going have a yummy dish:

Hot night food – super delicious sesame noodle salad with sticky tofu
I’ve got the perfect hot weather recipe to share with you. It’s one I hope you’ll happily freestyle with all summer long. You might like it for a picnic, a packed lunch, dinner al fresco, ideal for ‘bring a dish’ to a bbq, it’s endlessly adaptable and everyone seems to lap it up, like the 20 lovely people who made it for themselves when they joined me on wednesday night in a sweltering hot tent for a cooking class. Anyone else’s anxiety spike in the heat…

Can you kiss a gluten eater if you are coeliac or gluten-sensitive? There’s a question. I was actually asked this once and did a NAET treatment on someone who was definitely reacting! A recent study suggests it is ‘safe’ because although gluten was found in saliva, it was below the coeliac limit of 20ppm. As we know, that is still too high for some people. The researchers said:

gluten was still found in saliva after kissing a partner who had consumed gluten and then had a glass of water, in all cases the amount was less than 20 parts per million

I hesitate to say it but, maybe, delicate kisses, no tongues lolol!

Finally, I see Biona has just brought out a nice sriracha sauce – which seems to be all the rage at the moment and will certainly perk your food up. Chilli-y, garlicky, sweet. Stick some on white fish, maybe, or on something from your BBQ during this hot weather. If you don’t want spicy, how about ruby beetroot sauerkraut on the side? Can you tell it is lunchtime? And with that, I’m off.
