Fancy A Non-Dairy Ice-Cream?

Since its VERY hot outside, of course my thoughts turn to ice cream! Couple of bits of news for you, especially for those of you who don’t want soya, dairy or gluten.

First, don’t forget the Booja Booja Stuff in a Tub icecream, which is just fab and made predominantly from cashew nuts. Tastes gorgeous and compared to other ice creams is nowhere near as bad for you. Ask for it in healthshops as they refuse to sell it via supermarkets. My fave is the Vanilla m’Gorilla, but the Maple & Pecan also takes some beating for a treat. My lot never realise it’s dairy-free!

Then, www.Worthenshaws.co.uk has come up with a couple of dairy and gluten-free goodies too. Coconuka is a mix of coconut and Manuka honey frozen dessert and Coconice is their version of ice cream with no real coconut taste, but comes in vanilla, strawberry and chocolate. Both are based on coconut and rice milk. Again, ask your local health shop to get some in. The coconice is suitable too for diabetics and has fewer than 100 calories per serving.

For a quick round up of the various ice creams, see Foods Matter’s review this week: http://www.foodsmatter.com/newsletters/ice_cream_26.6.10.pdf

Enjoy. Have a bit with your Wimbledon strawberries!
