Statins Trigger Shingles?

Interestingly, I’ve been seeing a lot more shingles cases reported over the last few years so I was interested in this latest study that seems to suggest that taking statins can trigger a latent herpes virus and cause a shingles attack in the vulnerable. They’re not sure if it is the LDL cholesterol that has a protective effect and is being lowered by statins or whether the statins have a direct effect on the immune system or virus. Either way, useful to know, I’d say.
