Swimming and Chlorine

Researchers from several studies recently said they were concerned that the chlorine used in swimming pools outweighed the health benefits of swimming. I have long been concerned about this issue so it’s worth checking if your local pool is disinfected with chlorine or another substance like bromine.

One of the studies checked swimmers after 40 minutes of being in an indoor chlorinated pool and found seven times higher levels of chlorine by-products and evidence of genotoxic changes. Not good.

Let’s hope local authorities where you are use other methods. Ask ’em.

Here is the research report and a summary from WDDTY.
