Allergy

First off: want to confirm if yours is a classical IgE allergy or intolerance?

Check out the new range of tests for IgE blood levels or specifically for dust mites, grass pollen, cat, egg and milk. Quick, simple, the same as those done in hospital and allergy clinics, but you can do them at home and get your answer in about 30 minutes! See the home 30 minute allergy tests here.

Many people now have allergies or intolerances to chemicals and foods that can make life really miserable. We use the terms allergy and intolerance inter-changeably to mean a non-anaphylactic response to food or environmental triggers. We tend to deal with intolerances rather than acute anaphylaxis-type allergy.

Whatever anyone might say, identifying allergies and intolerances is not easy. They can be masked, occur only at certain times, only in combination with certain other foods etc. We tend to use a combination of tests and techniques to identify problem substances including elimination and challenge techniques, blood tests, pulse testing and referral for NAET or homeopathic therapy.

For a detailed factsheet about Allergy& Food Intolerance, see below for more info or click to read all about it.

Elimination & challenge is where the food or suspected substance is avoided for a while and then reintroduced to see what happens. This unmasks any hidden allergens and there is usually no mistaking a problem! Usually just by removing the two primary allergens of wheat and dairy (and sometimes sugar, yeast and gluten!), the secondary allergies tend to sort themselves out, we have found, in the majority of cases, when the body is repaired.

Blood tests are used to identify antibodies the body is making to foods or other substances. We use the FACT Elisa test, which is the most comprehensive one testing 190 foods and environmental substances. Or we can test for a single allergen, several common ones (see this useful one) or a variety of different groups of foods (eg spices) and inhalants (eg. pollens, dust mites etc.)

I have combined the most popular tests into one discounted test for you called the Allergy/Intolerance Screen - see more below.

At the moment, no blood test exists that is 100% accurate, but it can give you an excellent insight.

As for what causes them and what you do about them, we may feel that your allergies could have causes such as toxin overload, poor digestive ability, a failure of a liver detoxification pathway or poor intestinal health causing a leaky gut, all of which can be tested and treated.

In truth, allergy is usually found to be a combination of factors and individual help is recommended so feel free to contact me.

Allergy/Intolerance Screen

This is the test you need if you want to look for the main causes of food intolerance. It includes the blood test for wheat, dairy, grains, yeast and a coeliac test, plus a stool test to check for leaky gut and pancreatic enzyme insufficiency (ie lack of digestive enzymes).

We can adapt this to suit you (obviously the price will change but I will include the discounts given wherever I can. )

For example, you can add the full FACT test for 190 foods and environmental substances to it, you can combine the stool test with just one or two suspected allergens or you can use an inhalant panel if you think your allergy issues are environmental rather than food related.

You could even add a candida test to see if that is causing a leaky gut, or an SIgA gut immunity test if you want to have a peek at your immunity status. Both of these are stool tests done at the same time as the leaky gut/pancreatic one.

Just ask if you're unsure what you need and I'll advise what combination would best suit your needs.

Food Allergy & Intolerance Factsheet

This 10 page factsheet sets out my view of what food allergy/ intolerance is. It concentrates on delayed intolerance reactions rather than classical IgE or anaphylactic allergy.

In it, you can read about what causes intolerance, what tests are best and what you can do to start solving the problem.

This is a useful diagram of some of the factors we might look at as part of assessing why an allergy or intolerance occurs.
